Exporting puppies
Currently we are having a lot of requests to Transport Puppies abroad, in particular to Canada or the USA.
Sadly this not an easy option for us and I will out line this below.
If you feel that you have a way to lessen some of these worries for me, by all means please email me so we can discuss the purchase of a Puppy.
I have the contact details of breeders that I have personally bought from and would recommend if you still wish to import a Puppy. Please email me if you would like some names of these breeders.
Sadly this not an easy option for us and I will out line this below.
- Puppies need to have their Rabies injection at 12 weeks and then wait at least 3 weeks before they are able to travel. flights etc cannot be booked until the 3 week period is over so most Puppies are a minimum of 16 weeks old when they start their journey. This can create issues with bonding (for us and the Puppy) and with housing as well as training differences.
- A big part of my ethos as a breeder is that I am on hand to help with my puppies for the rest of their lives, If the new owner is in hardship or has had a change of circumstances in the UK it is not too difficult for me to go and collect the dog/puppy and ensure its safety. If my Puppy has been transported abroad I loose this ability.
- Chow Chows are on the dangerous dog lists in some countries and I am very aware of how the breed is perceived. My worry about the Puppies safety in these countries is a huge consideration. I know some states have a 'Kill on sight' policy and this is not something I want for my puppies.
- When we import Puppies we do so by road, this means the driver can stop regularly to allow the dogs out for toilet stops and to feed them. Also the temperature of dogs travel is kept cool but not cold with lots of fresh air. None of this is possible when shipping a dog by Air crate. a 16 week old puppy is hardly equipped to deal with this situation.
- I meet all my Owners in person and get to have a good relationship with them, even before they collect their Puppy from me. If you live abroad this becomes more problematic for me.
- Obviously there is an added cost of the Puppy needing to stay with us for a further 8 weeks, extra vetenerary costs of the vaccinations needed etc not to mention the cost of exporting a Puppy on top. The costs for flying a puppy to the US is around £2000 (£1800-£2200 from my own research) This may make the price of the Puppy cost prohibitive for you the purchaser.
